Services from HCC

As part their commitment to genetic improvement of sheep within Wales, Hybu Cig Cymru are supporting the services below in the following flocks in Wales.

Welsh Mountain, Cheviot, Lleyn, Hardy Speckle, Beulah, Border Leicester and Blue Faced Leicester

Signet recording

HCC will reimburse the full amount on receipt of a copy of a paid Signet invoice.

Muscle and back fat scanning

HCC will reimburse the full amount on receipt of a copy of a paid Innovis invoice.
As this service is fully refundable we would ask all breeders to scan as many of the this years lambs as possible as more information on progeny will increase the reliability of the data supplied.

Faecal Egg Count EBV

As breeders and commercial farmers are becoming more aware of the value of worm resistant sheep, HCC are offering Signet recorded flocks the Faecal Egg Count (FEC) EBV as an additional service
The service will cost £4.50 per lamb. HCC will reimburse £2.50 per lamb on receipt of a copy of a paid Signet invoice

Artificial insemination

AI service will be available for members recording on the Welsh and Longwool indices.
The rams used in the service should be performance recorded and in the top 25% of the relevant index.
The service will be charged around £3 ewe with 25 to be done on each farm / group
The cost of semen and collection will be paid for by HCC. Preparation of the ewes is the breeder’s responsibility.
The service will include the option for cervical and lap AI.
Other options are available where AI is not practical.

Terminal sire breeds do not qualify for the services above however HCC support the marketing of performance recorded stock at dedicated sales and the main NSA ram sales.
